Why should you stop getting up to urinate?

REM sleep, the unsung hero

This phase of sleep acts somewhat like the regulatory center of our nights. It improves memory, stabilizes mood, and helps manage our emotions. In short, it’s during this time that our brain gets its bearings.

But that’s not all: during REM sleep, our body produces an important hormone, ADH (antidiuretic hormone). Its role? To reduce urine production during the night, precisely to avoid… having to go to the bathroom.

The problem: if our sleep is disrupted (stress, unstable habits, screen time, etc.), this hormone is secreted in smaller quantities. As a result, the bladder functions as if it were daytime, prompting us to get out of bed.
