Your legs are screaming “HELP!”: 5 warning signs from your liver

4. Skin itching.
How it feels: constant, without rashes, more frequent at night.
Relationship to the liver: it can be one of the first signs of cholestasis (bile stagnation). Accumulated bile acids irritate the nerve endings in the skin.

5. Redness of the feet (plantar erythema)

What it looks like: Abnormally red and warm skin on the feet, especially at the base of the big toe and on the heel. Pressure momentarily makes the redness disappear.
Relationship to the liver: Like spider veins, it is related to excess estrogen and the dilation of small blood vessels caused by portal hypertension.

⚠ Important: These symptoms do not constitute a definitive diagnosis of liver disease. They can also occur in cases of heart failure, kidney problems, allergies, varicose veins, or skin diseases. However, if they appear together and worsen, it is essential to consult a doctor.

To do?

Don’t ignore the symptoms. If you have persistent swelling, spider veins, itching, or changes in skin color, especially if accompanied by fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, heaviness under your right ribs, or changes in your urine and stool, see a general practitioner or gastroenterologist immediately.

Prepare for the appointment: note when the symptoms started, what makes them worse or better, and if you have any other discomforts.
