“My mother’s grandmother used to make them. Then, when she passed away, no one had the recipe, but I’ve heard about it all my life.”

Step 3: Mix the liquid ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, milk and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 4: Mix the ingredients.
Gradually pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until well combined. Be careful not to overmix: this will help keep the bread tender.

Step 5: Baking the cake.
Pour the batter into your prepared pan and spread it evenly.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Tip: If the top starts to brown too quickly, loosely cover the pan with aluminum foil for the last 10 minutes of baking.

Step 6: Prepare the cinnamon sugar
While the bread is baking, mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 7: Add the topping
Once the bread is cooked and still warm, brush the top with melted butter, then sprinkle generously with the sugar and cinnamon mixture.

Step 8: Cool and enjoy.
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Slice and serve, warm or at room temperature
