Be very careful: How to protect yourself from the kissing bug and Chagas disease

A common way to find them is in the shade of furniture, wall cracks, or in storage areas where there is decaying wood. Early identification is crucial to prevent the spread of Chagas disease, so it’s important to pay attention to any suspicious presence.

Risks Associated with the Kissing Bug

The kissing bug is a vector of the parasite  Trypanosoma cruzi , which causes Chagas disease. This disease has two phases: acute and chronic. The acute phase generally manifests with mild symptoms that may go unnoticed, while the chronic phase can lead to serious complications in the heart and digestive system.

It is important to note that Chagas disease not only affects individuals in Latin America, but its presence has spread to various parts of the world due to global mobility. Therefore, awareness and prevention must be priorities.
