Cooking Directions
Prepare the apples: Peel and core the apples, then slice them thinly. Place them in a bowl with 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 tablespoon sugar, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Toss gently to coat and set aside while you prepare the batter.

Make the caramelized topping: In a small pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved into a smooth caramel. Pour this mixture into the bottom of your prepared baking pan, spreading evenly. Arrange the apple slices neatly over the caramel in a circular pattern.

Prepare the batter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs with salt, vanilla sugar, and ⅔ cup sugar until pale and fluffy. Slowly add the vegetable oil in a thin stream while whisking. Then add the milk and mix until smooth.

Add dry ingredients: Sift together the flour and baking powder, then gently fold into the wet mixture. Mix only until combined to keep the batter light and airy.

Assemble the cake: Pour the batter over the apples and caramel layer, smoothing the surface evenly. Tap the pan gently on the counter to release air bubbles.

Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the cake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and invert: Let the cake rest for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a serving plate so the caramelized apples are on top. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.

Serve: Enjoy warm with a dollop of whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or simply on its own with a hot cup of coffee or tea.
